    About MURNInets

This is an abbreviation of the Malaysian Urban-Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development. An approach that measures and evaluates the sustainability of a city and its affiliates through the use of city indicators.

PLANMalaysia has been conducting a study on urban sustainability indicators since 1998 and a first set of urban sustainability indicators was prepared in 2002 known as the Malaysia Urban Indicators Network (MURNInet).

Involves 11 key sectors, including 56 urban sustainability indicators.

These indicators were subsequently modified in line with the needs of the country's policies based on their implementation until 2010, the indicators used at that time were reduced to 40 indicators.

From 2012 to 2016, MURNInets has been used as a measure of the sustainability of cities in Malaysia.

It is a major program not only at the department level but also at the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and used by other relevant Ministries.

In fact, the Local Authorities who participated in the program and achieved sustainable city status were honored by the Honorable Minister of the KPKT through the Sustainable City Award which was first introduced in 2007.
